About Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal offers a long lasting solution of removing unwanted hair, significantly reducing the need for frequent shaving or waxing. This method is not only efficient but also minimizes skin irritation, making it a popular choice for those seeking smooth, hair-free skin.

How many treatments?

Most patients need 6-8 treatments, but the number can vary from person to person.

When will I see results?

After the first treatment, you can expect to see a 10–25% reduction in hair. As you continue treatments, more hair will fall out and grow back more slowly. After finishing the treatments, most patients don't see any hair on the treated skin for several months or even years.

Pre and Post Care Instructions for Laser Hair Removal

Pre-Care Instructions:

  1. Avoid Sun Exposure:

    • Limit sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before your treatment. Tanned skin can make the treatment less effective and increase the risk of side effects like burns or pigmentation changes.

    • Use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) if you must be outside.

  2. Shave the Treatment Area:

    • Shave the area to be treated 24 to 48 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, pluck, or bleach the hair in the area. Laser hair removal targets the hair follicle, and waxing or plucking removes the follicle, making the treatment less effective.

  3. Avoid Certain Skincare Products:

    • Stop using products containing retinoids (like Retin-A), alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) at least 3-5 days before your treatment. These can make your skin more sensitive to the laser.

  4. No Makeup, Creams, or Deodorant:

    • On the day of your treatment, do not apply makeup, creams, lotions, deodorant, or any other products to the treatment area.

  5. Avoid Certain Medications:

    • Inform your provider if you are taking any medications, especially those that make your skin more sensitive to light (e.g., antibiotics, Accutane, or other acne medications). You may need to stop certain medications for a period before treatment.

  6. Avoid Hair Removal Methods that Remove the Follicle:

    • Do not wax, pluck, or bleach the hair for at least 4 weeks before your treatment, as these methods remove the hair follicle that the laser targets.

Post-Care Instructions:

  1. Sun Protection:

    • After the treatment, your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. Avoid direct sun exposure and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) on the treated area for at least 2 weeks.

  2. Avoid Heat and Sweating:

    • For 24-48 hours after treatment, avoid hot showers, saunas, or intense exercise that causes sweating. This helps prevent irritation.

  3. Do Not Scratch or Rub the Treated Area:

    • After the treatment, your skin may feel a bit irritated or slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn. Avoid touching, scratching, or rubbing the area, as this can irritate the skin further.

  4. Apply Cooling Gel or Moisturizer:

    • Use a soothing aloe vera gel or gentle moisturizer to calm any irritation or redness. Avoid using harsh creams, as they could irritate the skin.

  5. Exfoliation:

    • After a few days, you may notice hair shedding or the hair growing out and falling off. Avoid scrubbing the treated area too harshly. Instead, gently exfoliate the skin to help the hair fall out.

  6. Avoid Makeup and Harsh Skincare:

    • Avoid makeup or any harsh skincare products (like exfoliants or products with alcohol) for at least 24-48 hours after treatment.

  7. Avoid Tight Clothing:

    • If you had laser hair removal on sensitive areas like the bikini line, try to avoid tight clothing that may irritate the skin for a few days.

  8. Follow-Up Treatments:

    • Laser hair removal typically requires multiple sessions for optimal results. Follow your technician's recommended schedule for follow-up treatments.
